A Historic Cottage on Michigan’s Third Coast

Built in 1899, Kemah Cottage is a landmark residence in the heart of Macatawa Park, one of Western Michigan’s most storied beach communities. With 3,000 square feet of preserved living space and direct shoreline access, Kemah stands as one of the few remaining original cottages from the Macatawa Park Hotel era.

A Legacy on the Lake

More than just a home, Kemah reflects generations of Midwestern summers. Families who grew up on these dunes return with children of their own, drawn to the same traditions of long beach days, evenings on the screen porch, and sunsets over Lake Michigan that have defined the area for more than a century.

The Macatawa community itself remains unique: a close-knit neighborhood where history and heritage are woven into everyday life. Set across two dunes and a flatland area, it has preserved its character while other parts of the lakefront have changed. Importantly, this stretch of shoreline has remained stable, avoiding the erosion that has reshaped much of Lake Michigan’s eastern side.

A Place Unlike Any Other

Guests who stay at Kemah experience both the charm of a historic home and the appeal of a rare destination. Tennis, boating, and long walks along the shore remain central to the summer rhythm, just as they were when the first visitors arrived more than a century ago.
